Octacalcium Phosphate Bone Substitute (Bontree®): From Basic Research to Clinical Case Study

چکیده
Bone grafts used in alveolar bone regeneration can be categorized into autografts, allografts, xenografts, and synthetic bones, depending on their origin. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect a commercialized octacalcium phosphate (OCP)-based substitute material (Bontree®) vitro, vivo, clinical cases. Material characterization Bontree® granules (0.5 mm 1.0 mm) using scanning electron microscopy X-ray diffraction showed that both 0.5 were uniformly composed mainly OCP. receptor activator NF-κB ligand (RANKL) alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities MG63 cells assessed compare with commercial biphasic calcium ceramic (MBCP+TM). Compared MBCP+TM, suppressed RANKL increased ALP activity. A rabbit tibia model examine effects granule size had higher new formation ability than granules. Three cases for ridge or sinus augmentation are described. All eight implants three patients 100% success rate after 1 year functional loading. This basic research application demonstrated safety efficacy regeneration.

3D Printing of Octacalcium Phosphate Bone Substitutes
Biocompatible calcium phosphate ceramic grafts are able of supporting new bone formation in appropriate environment. The major limitation of these materials usage for medical implants is the absence of accessible methods for their patient-specific fabrication. 3D printing methodology is an excellent approach to overcome the limitation supporting effective and fast fabrication of individual comp...
متن کاملOctacalcium Phosphate Solubility Product from 4 to 37-Degree-C
Octacalcium phosphate (OCP) is proving to be an important intermediary in the formation of tooth and bone mineral and various pathological calcifications. Before this mineral can form, its solubility product must be exceeded. Thus, a knowledge of its precise values under various conditions is required for a basic understanding of calcification processes. The methodology suitable for measuring t...
متن کاملAn Octacalcium Phosphate Forming Cement
The osteoconductive and possibly osteoinductive characteristics of OCP increased the interest in preparation of bone graft materials that contain OCP in its composition. Calcium phosphate cements (CPCs) were prepared using a mixture of α-tricalcium phosphate (α-TCP) and dicalcium phosphate anhydrous (DCPA), with α-TCP / DCPA molar ratio of 1/1 and distilled water or 0.5 mol / L phosphate aqueou...
متن کاملWorld's First Clinical Case of Gene-Activated Bone Substitute Application
Treatment of patients with large bone defects is a complex clinical problem. We have initiated the first clinical study of a gene-activated bone substitute composed of the collagen-hydroxyapatite scaffold and plasmid DNA encoding vascular endothelial growth factor. The first patient with two nonunions of previously reconstructed mandible was enrolled into the study. Scar tissues were excised; b...

Background: Repair of bone defects is challenging for reconstructive and orthopedic surgeons. In this study, we aimedto histomorphometrically assess new bone formation in tibial bone defects filled with octacalcium phosphate (OCP),bone matrix gelatin (BMG), and a combination of both. Methods: A total of 96 male Sprague Dawley rats aged 6-8 weeks weighing 120-150 g were randomly allocatedinto thr...
